Harrison In 1790 Captain Samuel Harrison, his wife Elizabeth and two children, Samuel Jr. and Margaret came from Belize, Honduras to East Florida. With a Spanish grant, they settled the Harrison Plantation on Amelia Island. Four children, Robert, Ephraim, Mary and Sarah were born there as Spanish subjects. In 1775, his father, William Harrison, a Captain of the British Navy, and on the American Colonial Station was living with his family in Yorktown, Va. Being loyal to the English Crown when the War of Independence broke out, he had moved to the English Colony at Belize with his wife Mary Hartley and son Samuel. Elizabeth McQueen English was the daughter of Robert English and Margaret Adamson. Various accounts disagree on Captain Sam’s birth and death dates, however, there seems to be a consensus that he died in a fall from a horse at the age of 81. The above and the following genealogy on the first Harrisons of Amelia Island and their descendants come from sources too numerous to include here. For information concerning sources, contact the compiler at his email address. WILLIAM HARRISON m. Mary Hartley
