The William Braddock Family William Braddock b. 1775, South Carolina, m. 9-May-1804, in Fernandina, Nassau Co., Fl, Charlotte Ann Christopher, b. 1788, (daughter of John Bluet Christopher and MarthaWatson) d. 1832, Nassau Co., Fl. William died 1855, Nassau Co., Fl. William Braddock was a resident of Nassau Co., Florida, from about 1797 until his death about 1855; he was born in South Carolina in 1775, a son of John Braddock, RS and his wife Lucia Cook Braddock. The said John and Lucia were married July 16, 1769, in St. Matthews Parrish, Ga., (now Effingham Co.), and she was a daughter of James Cook, RS, of that parish and county. John Braddock was a private in the Georgia Line in the Revolutionary War, and moved soon after the war to Glynn County where he lived until his death in 1794; John Braddock served as Representative from Glynn in 1787 and again in 1793, and was commissioned as captain in the Glynn County militia, Dec. 9, 1793; he died between that date and April 23, 1794, when his successor, George Valley, was commissioned as captain "succeeding Capt. Braddock, deceased" as shown by state militia records. William Braddock, the subject, grew up and lived in Glynn County until he was grown, and when about twenty-two years of age went to Florida. In his affidavit made Jan. 23, 1824, in support of claim for land made by William Berrie, William Braddock stated he had been a resident of what was then DuVal County, Fl, for twenty seven years. He was married according to the records of the Roman Catholic Church in St. Augustine, Fl, on May 9, 1804, to Charlotte Ann Christopher, born 1788, daughter of Spicer Christopher (native of Maryland) and his wife Mary Greenwood, native of Georgia. William Braddock served as a member of the Legislative Council of Florida, from Nassau County, in 1829, 1830, 1831; this was a position under the territorial government corresponding to being a member of the legislature. He also served as a Justice of the Peace, 1833 to about 1837. Reference: "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", Vol. VI, pg. 19 and 20. I. John Spicer Braddock b. 1805, Nassau Co., Fl. II. The census did not start showing the names of children until the 1850 census, but in the 1860 Nassau Co., FL census, it shows that Alexander had a daughter named Martha, which was the name of William's wife, who must have been Alexander's mother, for whom his daughter was named .
