Mott Cemetery (no grave layout) Directions to this cemetery are not given because it is on land managed by Rayonier Corporation (and known by them as Fuqua Block 10351). Permission must be given by that company for access to it. The veterans Graves Registration lists the location as Township 3N, Range 24 E, Section 8, which would place this the the northwest quadrant of the Hilliard Township. This Survey also says the cemetery is about one mile from the Hilliard town center. These date are from three sources: An actual survey by the Amelia Island Genealogy Society in 1995, WPA Graves Reistration data, and a contribution of Eunice A. Mott which supplies additional burials and the family relationships. This contribution is contained in the Nassau County Genealogist, Vol. IX, #2, Spring 2002. In addition to the graves listed, there are numerous unmarked or unreadable wooden markers. A member of the Mott family said those were graves of slaves, but there is no independent confirmation of this. Some surveys have called this the Henry Davis Cemetery. This AIGS survey made by Shirley McCabe and Joan Johnson prior to June 13, 1995. They were directed to this location by the head ranger for the timber company. |
