Nassau County was formed in 1824 from Duval County. In 1822, Duval County was formed from St. Johns County, which was one of the two original counties in Florida. It is bounded by Camden and Charlton Counties of Georgia and the St. Mary's River on the north and west, Duval County on the south and Baker County, Florida on the west. To the east beyond Amelia Island is the Atlantic Ocean.
